Frequently Asked Questions

The Signature Decaf Masala Chai is a full-flavoured,
caffeine-free version of our Signature blend, the same eight whole spices
(cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, black pepper, nutmeg, lemongrass, and
mint) hand-blended with a decaffeinated Assam loose leaf base. It delivers the
same bold, warming, authentic masala chai experience without the caffeine.

The Decaf Masala Chai contains the same eight-spice blend as
our Signature: cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, black pepper, nutmeg,
lemongrass, and mint. The spices are lightly toasted and hand-crushed in small
batches to preserve their essential oils, the same process as our caffeinated blend, with no shortcuts.

Very little difference, if any. The warmth, depth, and spice complexity all come from the whole spice blend, the tea base primarily provides body and a gentle malty note. Most people find it indistinguishable
from the regular Signature in a well-brewed cup. The decaffeination process removes caffeine while preserving the tea's natural flavour characteristics.

Many people reduce or cut caffeine during pregnancy, and our Signature Decaf Masala Chai is a brilliant alternative to regular chai. It delivers the same comforting, spiced flavour without the caffeine. As with all
food and drink during pregnancy, we'd always recommend checking with your
midwife or GP but the decaf blend lets you enjoy your favourite cup with confidence.

Absolutely, it's one of the main reasons we created it. Traditional masala chai brewed with milk makes a wonderful evening wind-down drink, but the caffeine in standard chai can disrupt sleep. The Decaf Masala
Chai gives you all the warmth and comfort of a proper chai, with milk, properly brewed without the caffeine hit.

Yes. If you love the taste of masala chai but find caffeine affects your sleep, anxiety, or heart rate, the Decaf Masala Chai was made for you. It contains no added caffeine and uses a decaffeinated tea base, making it
a genuinely flavourful option rather than a compromise.

The Decaf Masala Chai is a much more suitable choice for older children than regular chai, removing the caffeine concern. The spice blend is warming rather than hot, though the black pepper and ginger do give it a gentle kick. We'd suggest a milder brew (shorter simmer time) for younger palates.

It's one of very few. The decaf masala chai market in the UK is largely dominated by tea bags with pre-ground spices, there's almost nothing available as a premium, whole-spice, loose leaf decaf blend. TRCC's
Signature Decaf was created precisely to fill that gap: a genuinely artisan, hob-brewed decaf chai for people who refuse to compromise on flavour.

Decaf chai tea bags typically use powdered spice and low-grade tea dust, the flavour is thin and fades quickly. Loose leaf whole
spices release their essential oils slowly during brewing, producing a richer,
more complex and aromatic cup. With TRCC's decaf blend, you get the full
sensory experience of traditional chai, the fragrance, the layered warmth, the golden colour, regardless of the caffeine content.

Like all our products, the Decaf Masala Chai is blended by hand in small batches in Kibworth, Leicestershire, UK. Small-batch production ensures consistent aroma, freshness, and quality in every bag.

Brewing is identical to our regular Signature blend. Add one heaped tablespoon per cup to a small saucepan with a mix of cold water and milk (roughly 50/50). Bring to a gentle simmer and let it bubble for 3–5 minutes,
then strain into your cup. Add sugar, honey, or jaggery to taste. The slow simmer is what activates the whole spices, don't rush it.

Yes, the Decaf Masala Chai works beautifully with oat milk, almond milk, or full-fat coconut milk. Oat milk is a particularly popular choice as its natural creaminess and slight sweetness complement the spice blend without overpowering it. Avoid very thin plant milks, which can make the brew feel watery.

Each bag yields approximately 45–50 cups, depending on brew strength. That works out at well under 45p per cup, a far more cost-effective evening ritual than a café chai latte, and with a fraction of the sugar.

Yes. The blend is 100% plant-based, dried whole spices and loose leaf decaf tea. No animal products are used in the blend. Simply choose your preferred milk (dairy or plant-based) at the brewing stage.

Yes, the Signature Masala Chai uses the same eight-spice blend with a bold single-origin Assam CTC base. Both products are available from therealchaicompany.com, and many customers keep both in their cupboard, the Signature for mornings, the Decaf for evenings.
